Urban poverty is a serious problem that requires the attention of caring corporate citizens in this country and EXIM Bank recognises this. Collaborating with marketplace player Bursa Malaysia and other NGOs, EXIM Bank has joined these caring organisations in a re.Food programme to channel support to B40 communities.
re.Food is a waste management programme with the objective of reducing food waste going into landfills, while helping to alleviate poverty by feeding the underprivileged through the distribution of edible food and non-edible food surpluses. Some of the initiatives of this programme include:
- Encouraging EXIMers to donate dry food that will be channeled to the B40 groups.
- Food collection box placement at EXIM Bank sponsored by Bursa Malaysia. We have successfully collected 134kg worth of dry groceries from EXIMers during the month of Ramadan and donated them to Food Aid Foundation that was later distributed to the underprivileged.
- EXIM Bank donated RM5,000 to 3 selected NGOs to purchase food supplies to be distributed to the B40 groups. The NGOs are Food Aid Foundation, The Lost Food Project & Treat Every Environment Special (TrEES).
This community programme is aimed at creating awareness on food management and financial literacy, especially amongst corporate employees and targeted communities. In addition, it also increases employee morale or satisfaction by getting their engagement in a good cause. This initiative supports the UN SDGs no.2 – Zero Hunger and no.17 – Partnership for the Goals.
