KOTA KINABALU: Ignis SG (Sabah) Sdn Bhd and Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) inked a significant concession agreement at Wisma Innoprise here today.

This milestone event marks a pivotal step towards innovative waste management solutions in Sabah.

Deputy Chief Minister II cum Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam witnessed the signing, further underscoring the importance of this partnership.

The agreement was signed by Alan Tan Yean Keat, Executive Chairman of Ignis SG (Sabah) Sdn Bhd and its CEO Tee Hong Wee serving as a witness, while MPS President Henry Idol represented the council.

Ignis SG (Sabah) Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary of Ignis Environment Initiatives Sdn Bhd, dedicated to providing innovative environmental solutions. The company focuses on leveraging cutting-edge technologies to address waste management and environmental sustainability challenges.

Ignis Environment Initiatives Sdn Bhd has secured financing for this project from the Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad (Exim Bank), demonstrating strong financial backing and confidence in the project’s potential.

Exim Bank, keen on advancing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, sees this project as a significant stepping stone in supporting ESG compliance.

The initiative involves the deployment of a new patented Malaysian technology aimed at reducing waste volume, contributing to recycling efforts, and promoting sustainable environmental practices.

The 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) rehabilitation technology will be implemented at MPS’ landfill, marking a significant advancement in waste management infrastructure.

Henry said MPS is committed to enhancing its waste management infrastructure.

“This agreement with Ignis SG (Sabah) Sdn Bhd is a testament to our dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have on our community,” he added.

The agreement is a testament to the commitment of both parties to advancing environmental sustainability and addressing waste management challenges.

The collaboration is expected to bring about significant improvements in waste reduction and recycling efforts in Sandakan.
